Creative Dumping Ground

In a strange new light

In my memory of this place

it was always blanketed by the dark

only pierced by shards of colourful lights

but now it’s stripped and stark

Each and every time I’d stumble and fall

Before I’d learn How to glide again

my legs shook

Like I hadn’t even used them until then

but I revelled in the brief moments

when I’d hardly see at all

the body I inhabit

when I was only a speck of light and infinitely small

A single skate is strewn

Across the tattered floor

It’s not much use now

It never really was beyond the front door

Another version of me

Would secretly take it home

With the misplaced intention

I misread in the rusted chrome

That version only exists

In the girl I was back then

I’d like to say I’m glad she left

But I’m not even sure I can say when

The pleather is cracking right at the seams

Falling into ruin or so it seems

It’s hard to think

That my own feet were once that small

But we’ve all once been less than nothing

And to that nothing is where we’ll all return
